Project Description: o Renovation of the existing five-story 200 Monroe building required a complete structural evaluation of the existing structure for conformance with current building code requirements which identified that the future use of the building would result in increased loading in excess of the original design bearing pressure at specific columns as well as the need for additional lateral and uplift restraint. MTC performed Ground Penetrating Radar scanning, soil and rock core borings and Menard Pressuremeter Testing to evaluate the existing shallow bedrock surface, bearing capacity and settlement for new shallow foundations bearing on native granular soil as well as feasible systems to provide additional uplift resistance for existing foundations. A Type A micropile system was evaluated and recommended below affected columns to provide both additional compression and uplift resistance where required which was determined to be the preferred option due to overhead restrictions within the below-grade parking level of the structure.
