At MTC & MATECO, We Appreciate Our Team!

At Materials Testing Consultants (MTC) and MATECO Drilling Company, we expect a lot from our team because our clients expect a lot from us. Our philosophy has not changed since MTC first opened its doors in 1968 – to protect the interests of our clients and ultimately the general public through our innovative solutions that deliver cost-saving, practical, and code-compliant testing and designs.

We realize the best way to have a great team capable of meeting our client’s needs is to hire people who are a good match with us from the start, people who will be able to effectively interact with their co-workers to achieve quality results while upholding the ideals and values we hold dear.

“I see our current team as a group of individuals committed to providing quality service to our clients and helping where needed to meet the goals and objectives of our companies,” states Vicki VanZalen, Business Division Manager.

MTC and MATECO are great places to not just start a career, but to stay and grow!

“We have many examples of advancement for team members over the years,” notes VanZalen. “Two examples are Todd Munger, who started as a staff engineer right out of college and is now manager of our Geo-Environmental Department, and Curt Weaver, who started as a technician and is now CMET Field Manager for Grand Rapids. John Pitsch started as a driller’s assistant with MATECO and he was recently promoted to General Manager. And there are so many more!”

Human Resource Supervisor Jessica VanTimmeren agrees.

“There are always opportunities for advancement for the right individual,” she acknowledges. “We are constantly striving to improve our onboarding process to ensure we are giving new hires every opportunity to be successful.”

According to VanZalen, the companies invest a lot in training our team and beyond that, they have the support of other team members and their supervisors, all the way up to the President.

“Every project is unique and presents an opportunity for growth,” explains VanZalen. “And we have a recognition program where managers can immediately reward a team member with a gift card or send a note of thanks. In addition, we have service awards that are given to team members on their anniversaries.”

One of our favorite sayings is: “Investments in people, technology, and equipment are worth it.”

VanZalen states, “By investing we create more opportunities for our employees and the companies.”

MTC and MATECO are proud of the fact that many team members have been with the two companies for more than 20 years, and some for more than 30 years!

“Each department has at least one team member who has been with us for more than 15 years,” notes VanTimmeren. “I would attribute this to a work environment where we are constantly trying to do our best. Being able to be proud of what you do plays a huge role in job satisfaction.”

“I think that says a lot about our culture,” confides VanZalen. “I think everyone here knows that we are committed to our clients and providing top-quality services, but we also provide support when personal or stressful issues arise with our staff. And we offer benefits that reflect our concern for our team member’s wellbeing.”

Some of our current benefits include tuition reimbursement, company-matched 401(k), paid vacation and sick time, paid holidays, and a $30 monthly fitness membership reimbursement. To encourage team members to take their vacation time by getting away for much-needed rest and relaxation, the companies also offer a $500 annual vacation stipend.

At MTC and MATECO, we believe happy employees are productive employees! “Company culture is the biggest element in the overall success of an organization,” concludes VanTimmeren.
